ODC: A quiet place. I really liked these gallery stairs at MAMAC in Nice.
Kylie wants to wear a different coat, but I won’t let her; I’m really liking the red contrast of the last few shots.
The mediterranean has a very impressive soft pastel palette, with beautiful and subtle blue shades. Something that really fascinates me about this area is the band of pale-pink and golden sunlight just above the equator and just below the cloud cover.
This has to be my favourite building in DC. The courtyard garden has this amazing - magical - sense of space and light that I’ve never seen anywhere else.
ODC challenge: accessories. As you can probably tell, these have been my favourite accessories over the last few days…
Strobist: SB-600 with two CTO gels in shoot through umbrella just left of camera. SB-600 gelled green, on much lower power, in a silver reflective umbrella positioned above the table at the right angle to get the specular highlights in the glass.
Ok, I think this will be the last self portrait for a while. I’ve had enough of looking at myself. I thought I’d better get a closeup shot of the goggles though.
Strobist: 50mm, 1/200s @ f/1.8
Key: SB-600 in LumiQuest SB-III softbox camera right, 1/32 power.
Triggered with Yongnuo triggers.
The ODC topic today is ‘makes you happy’. I had an excellent day off today; I spent all afternoon at the National Gallery (US), then relaxed and planned out a shot I’ve had in my mind for a little while. Lighting diagrams make me happy; getting out and shooting makes me happy.
I’m hoping that this also fits the daily shoot theme today, ‘tungsten’. I confess I cheated a bit; I used a warming gel on the key light rather than an actual tungsten lamp. Either way, though, I get the nice contrast effect from the cooler rim and backlight.
Strobist: 1/320s @ f/8, ISO 400
Key: SB-900 key in silver reflective umbrella, high left, 1/1.
Rim: SB-600 clamped to a fence, in Lumiquest SB-III softbox, 1/16.
Backlight: SB-600 bare on stand, head height, a few metres back, 1/4.
Triggered with my new yongnuo radio triggers.
